Description: A dove is a very gentle creature.
Here in Maine we have American Mourning Doves, also known as Turtle Doves.
There have been times that we have observed Mourning Doves feeding in our front lawn after spreading seed in our front yard for birds. When much smaller birds come along the larger Morning doves back up and wait their turn politely. That is how gentle doves are.
I think that the gentleness of doves is why the white dove is a symbol of Peace and also why it is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. In fact when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, the Bible tells us that the Holy Ghost descended upon Jesus as a dove!
